SportVU Heat Map Shot Charts (for entire 2014-15 season)

I created a few visualizations in Tableau Public using data pulled from NBASavant.com (SportVU). The result are two awesome dashboards:

Dashboard 1: Player Off/Def Metrics

• Player shot chart heat maps for offense and defense, searchable by player (select a player using the filter on the right, separately for offense and defense)
• Defensive shot charts based on closest defender to the shot
• Coloring based on how well they shoot in region relative to rest of the league,
• Right/Left corner three-point region
• Right/Left above the break (three point region)
• Right/Left above the break (non-three point region)
• Right/Left low block
• In the paint out to 12 feet
• Player shot tendencies (on offense) vs. other players at same position (jump shot versus driving shot versus post shot)
• Players ability to defend shot tendencies (in terms of opponent FG%)

Dashboard 2: Team/Player Shot Charts

• Search for team shot charts by game
• You can then disaggregate that into individual player shot charts and break down the charts by quarter
